Stop Whining About #Facebook Timeline Brand Pages & Start Utilizing Your SALES REAL ESTATE

Ok, ok, yeah Anise talking about Timeline again. I do tend to talk about it quite a bit and as I realize new cool things I have a need to blog about them. At the very least it makes for interesting conversation.
Well, one thing that I just noticed was the huge sales real estate opportunity that Timeline for personal and now branded pages offers. For a person that is in a sales driven industry this is HUGE! So we really should STOP looking at Timeline as a big change and inconvenience but we should start looking at it as a way to utilize the huge amount of online real estate that’s offered in order to promote our brands.
Since I use my personal Facebook page as about 90% networking opportunity and 10% friends and family I see all space given as an avenue to display my capabilities. Most situations can be utilized as an opportunity.
Now with the roll out of Facebook Timeline for Brands it is an even bigger opportunity to utilized the generous real estate offered by Facebook as a means to display your capabilities. This is especially important if your have a small business, or any sized business for that matter.
Well, I was a tad bit peeved that Facebook no longer allowed our brand landing page to be the default page, which means that for brands the custom iFrame Page will no longer be the page that visitors land on when they go to your Facebook Page. Visitors will automatically land on the page Timeline.
The consolation prize that was offered by Facebook is the ability to create a larger iFrame page, this is the Real Estate I have been referencing. So now instead of cramming all the information that you want to display on your landing page within a space of a little over 500 px we now get a whopping 810px. This is a huge! Take a look at the images below of my Facebook Landing page before Timeline and the newly created wider landing page that I am utilizing now.
Pre-Timeline Landing Page approximately 500px Wide
New Timeline Landing Page 810px Wide
Notice in the new Landing Page, I used it as an opportunity to tweak the brand a bit. I also used the larger space to condense the page a bit. Previously I had 6 pages but since I had more space to work with I added a lot of the contact information directly to the larger banner, displayed our capabilities and added a video of our capabilities. All of this on one page due to the increase in size of the page, this is For The Win for my business!
So, ultimately, if you are using Facebook for business, Timeline offers much greater possibilities to display capabilities visually. Although we give up a few things with Timeline for brands in the way of the default landing page within our Facebook page we do have a huge amount of Facebook Real Estate in which to display our companies in a creative way as I’ve displayed above.
Ok time is A-Wastin’ get to it…go create your Timeline for your brand!
