Social Media And Sales: Winning Combination vs Old School: Cold Calling NOT #Winning
I am an Internet Marketer, no doubt about it, I love everything Social Media, Technology and Internet Marketing related. However, I am also a sales person, after all the world is run on the sales of goods, services and products. Without sales, the world as we know it would be a very different place. I have sold Automobiles, Real Estate, Apparel, Computer Gadgets and Promotional Merchandise to Pharmaceutical companies. I am an Internet Marketer that understands sales and the ultimate goal to close the deal. The sale of products can make you wealthy and it is time for the sales industries to incorporate social media into their sales strategy and for social media people to add a bit more sales to their social media campaign.
Social Media as we know it is relatively new but has placed a very different spin on how products and services are advertised and brought to market. The days of companies that hold a huge advertising budget dominating the market and making millions in sales is coming to a quick end. This is primarily due to technology growth, drastic change in advertising and Social Media. The traditional channels in which companies and sales focused organizations were advertising have either jumped the shark or are no longer the ideal advertising method of choice as it once was. This is due to the shift in the consumer mentality toward traditional marketing and the need for them to interact and engage with the company that is selling to them. Social Media has almost replaced the methods in which were used to push the business transaction and close the deal.
Just a few years ago in one of the sales industries in which I worked, things were quite different. The sales people that were dominating sales within the office were setting up meetings, cold calling, and meeting face to face with clients or potential clients. I’m not saying that those ways are a thing of the past, but I am saying that things have changed and that the sales industries need to integrate some social media aspect into their strategy.
Smart phone, Mobile Internet, Tablets, Video Conferencing and Cloud Cloud Computing are a definite game changer for the salesperson making cold calls from the office phone while scrolling through the Rolodex. While this guy is old-schoolin’ the new wave of social sales force is taking his clients because they are mobile, on the move and using technology to their advantage and closing the deal. It’s not too late at all, it’s just time to think outside of the box a bit while trying to hit those sales numbers.
